About the 2019 World Rowing Championships

Summer temperature, still air filled with cheering spectators and splashing blades in Danube water. Only the best conditions were provided for spectators and fans from all around the world at the 2019 World Rowing Championships from 25 August – 1 September.

Opening Ceremony on 24 August
“I hereby declare the 2019 World Rowing Championships in Linz-Ottensheim as open,” said FISA President Jean-Christophe Rolland accompanied by thundering applause.

The Ceremony was opened with a minute of silence for the Belarusian para-rower Dzmitry R., who died after capsizing during training in Linz-Ottensheim. After, the flag parade of all participating countries started the official part of the show. Thousands of spectators visited the Opening Ceremony of the 2019 World Rowing Championships and were introduced to the unique world of rhythm and sense. The highlight was the performance “ROW – Rhythm on Water” – a composition of 5’18”, which refers to the Men’s eight world record time of 2017.

Many busy hands
Everybody – organisers, inhabitants of Ottensheim, and spectators – did their best to make this event a success. During the regatta, the Organising Committee of 10 people was supported by 300 volunteers plus the same number of securities, police, fire brigade, and medical staff.

Various side programme
Enthusiasm about the event was huge, even offside racing. Each afternoon, a various side programme attracted spectators to the center of Ottensheim.
