Full speed ahead towards World Championships

Perfect weather, filled grandstands, exciting races, great music, and tasty food: the 2018 World Rowing Cup II in Linz-Ottensheim came to a sensational end. Magdalena Lobnig achieved her first silver medal in a World Rowing Cup. With regional food and live music at the culinary market place, the event was completed in true Upper Austrian charm.

It was the perfect ending to an exciting weekend: With blue sky and bright sunshine, the international audience finished their Sunday with Upper Austrian delicacies and traditional music. Organiser and president of the Upper Austrian Rowing Federation can regard the event as highly successful: “Our Organising Committee was perfectly prepared for this event. Of course, Magdalena Lobnig’s silver medal is a huge accomplishment from a sporting point of view.”

Energised through a cheering crowd on the grandstands, the 27-years-old achieved her first silver medal in the Women’s Single Sculls: “I am super happy with the result. It is not easy to stand the pressure in front of the home crowd. Their cheers carried me across the finish line.”

Anselm and his team are already working towards the next event: “It was a successful test event for next year, but there is still a lot to do until then. We expect up to 15,000 spectators for the final days at the 2019 World Rowing Championships in Ottensheim. However, a spectacle is guaranteed: For the first time in history, Upper Austria will host World Championships in an Olympic Sports discipline.”
